Solar water heaters can't be used
alone in rainy or cloudy days. Electric supplementary heaters
will be necessary. And the COP is only 2, much lower than heat
pumps.
+
Installation of integrated type
solar water heaters is restricted. They are only fit to be
installed on the roof of a building.
+
The hot water supplied by solar
water heaters have difference in temperatures and the hydraulic
pressure is low. So it is not so comfort for showers as heat
pumps.
+
Solar water heaters use
glass tubes and open water tanks. So they are easier to be
damaged by nature disasters.
+
The efficiency of split
type solar water heaters is even lower than integrated type
(only 60% of integrated type).
+
The safety of using solar
water heaters is also not as good as heat pumps. (Solar water heaters have risks of thunderstrokes. While electric and water are separated entirely for heat pumps.)
